Call for Abstracts

The flood event of July 2021 caused by heavy rainfall in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate is considered as one of the largest flood disasters in Germany since decades. The affected regions and municipalities are now facing enormous challenges. The research project KAHR (Climate Adaptation, Flood, Resilience) - funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) - aims to provide scientific support and advice on the processes of reconstruction in the aftermath of the flood disaster. Within the research project approaches for resilient and climate-adapted development will be identified and guiding principles for a resilient reconstruction will be advanced.

Against this background, the KAHR project will host a virtual scientific conference from 09.-10. of May 2023. Researchers of different disciplines working on impacts and management of flood disasters or on issues of climate resilient reconstruction are invited to contribute to the conference or participate online. At the parallel sessions of the conference we will focus on following topics:

  • Novel numerical modeling approaches
  • Interaction between structures/construction measures and water bodies
  • Risk-based spatial planning and vulnerable infrastructures
  • Early warning and risk communication
  • Disaster resilience and disaster management
  • Geomorphological and toxicological impacts
  • Social aspects of reconstruction
  • Reconstruction in the context of climate change adaptation

For the KAHR Science Conference, we invite your professional contributions in the form of presentations. Please submit your abstract here by 10.04.2023.

Registration (w/o contribution) for the 2nd KAHR digital KAHR Science Conference is open until May 8th 2023.

Please register here  to receive registration details (access via Zoom). Registration is also required if you have submitted an abstract.

Participation in the event is free of charge.
